I got a car today! It was free! And it's all MINE! And, of course, it's butt-ugly. This is the ghetto of ghetto cars. This is my new-to-me '85 gold(ish) Toyota Corolla. It turns amazingly, breaks like a charm, accelerates wonderfully, and looks like ass. The driver side window doesn't roll up quite all the way, there are a few dents, the paint is ugly, there's no side view mirror on the passenger side, you have to pump the gas to start it, the lining of the driver's door is missing (so it's basically just bare metal), the little knob to roll the window up or down on the driver's door is broken off, the seats are less than pretty, the lining on the ceiling is starting to fall off over the passenger side back seat, the hubcaps are hideous, and the gas guage is broken so you have to set the odometer at zero every time you get gas, and then get gas after it's gone about 170 miles. But, it's mechanically sound, fits ANYWHERE, it's mine, and best of all, it's FREEE!! This thing can literally park anywhere. Meaning, if you see a space that some annoying SUV has overflowed into, you can still fit, and piss off the person in the process. And if they open their door into the car, it doesn't matter, cuz it looks like hell anyway. The lock on the driver's door doesn't work, either...but who the hell would want to steal it?
I got the car from David's mom, who was donating it to Habitat for Humanity. I offered to pay the difference in the tax write-off, but they insisted I just take it. They just wanted to get rid of it. Soooooo, the money I saved to buy a car is going to fixing this little ditty up. Maybe I'll paint it myself. Hmm... We'll see.
So make fun of it all you want, because it's ghetto-fabulousness is well deserving of some teasing, but I won't care. It was free. And it's mine. And that's all that matters.
